Sukho Thai | Canton, OH

If you find yourself craving Thai food in Canton, at least you won’t have trouble deciding where to go.  There is, in fact, only one Thai restaurant in all of Canton (that I’ve found). So luckily, Sukho Thai near Belden Village hits the spot for all things Thai…and sushi too.

The sushi is always delicious and fresh.  We keep it pretty basic when it comes to ordering sushi (translation, we eat our sushi like Americans, with cream cheese), but as tuna and Philadelphia rolls go, they’re great.  And there’s a little sushi bar in the dining room so you can watch it being prepared.

Pictured above are the tiger prawn spring rolls.  I expected the non-fried variety served cold in rice paper wraps.  So these weren’t exactly what I pictured, but they were very enjoyable anyway – crunchy and flavorful with the spicy-sweet sauce on the side.

We love pad thai, and Sukho’s version is excellent.  Lots of peanut-ie flavor, with some subtle tofu, egg, crisp veggies, and tender chicken make this dish a must-have almost every time we go.  We also order the coconut curries a lot.  Thus far, we haven’t met a dish at Sukho Thai that isn’t excellent and made with super fresh and quality ingredients.

Thai ice tea = sweet creamy tea deliciousness.

As you can see from the paper placemats, Sukho Thai is on the casual side.  It’s also in desperate need of some updating on the inside.  Like many other Canton eateries, they should take cues from places like Wasabi, where tasty Japanese food and trendy interior design merge; clearly it’s no coincidence that Wasabi is packed just about every night of the week!  Eating out is an experience for all the senses (or should be).  But overall, Sukho Thai is a great little down-to-earth “intro to Thai” restaurant with reasonable prices, great service, and fresh Thai and Japanese cuisine.  Def in the rotation.

  1. Do try Jasmine Bistro, also in Canton. My favourite place for this sort of Pan-Asian in the Canton area. Unfortunately for Thai food, Akron really does beat the Canton area with a few more…solid places in my opinion. (not unexpectedly though).
